Before Gagarin flew the spaceship, he was a pilot, and the plane made its first flight before taking off.

No one knew what would happen to the lander during landing. Further when the module passed through the dense layers of the atmosphere, it was engulfed in fire. Naturally, Yuri Gagarin thought he was on fire.
